Things to See
Jingxi County affords a virtually endless list of things to see and places to go. Here are some of the best and most interesting experiences to make your stay most memorable. Most locations are accessible by public bus or three-wheeled taxi (sanlunche) for a reasonable price. Small vans and private buses can also be rented with a driver from the Jingxi South Bus Station.
Jiuzhou Village
This beautiful village is one of Jingxi County's most well-known attractions. It is considered to be the Zhuang Silk Ball Capital of the World, and is actually the ancient capital of the Zhuang people in this area. You will have many opportunities to purchase high quality silk balls and other products at good prices. After entering the village, look for the Jiuzhou Eco-museum on the left which introduces the culture and customs of the people of Jiuzhou. Be sure to see the picturesque Wenchang Pagoda at the back of the village. Admission prices are seasonal and may vary between free and 5 RMB per person.
Equan "Goose" Spring
This natural spring is a great place to swim and relax. Step across the pond on the many stepping stones, and enjoy feeding the legendary fish by an ancient temple. There is a good minority food restaurant in the park as well, that serves a wonderful river grass omelet (Shuicao Chaodan). (Note: Jiuzhou and Equan Spring can be done in the same day, since they are only about 15 minutes away from each other by bus or taxi). Admission price is around 10 RMB per person.
Tongling Canyon
A spectacular hike down into an unusual steep canyon which was hidden for many years. The hike takes you through a cave and into a "doline" where you will see the beautiful Tongling Waterfall. Behind the waterfall is yet another cave and an inner waterfall. The area around the falls is good for swimming in the warm summer months. The hike takes from two to three hours, so it's advisable to bring some snacks for a picnic. Admission price is 60 RMB. If you bargain, you may get the price down to 33 RMB for adults, 23 RMB for students.
Gulong Mountain
This is the most expensive ticketed activity in Jingxi County, but well worth the price! Hike down into a beautiful canyon, board a river raft, and meander through some of the most breathtaking scenery on earth. The river passes through three caves before this three-hour tour is complete, after which a van will take you back to where you started. Be sure to wear swimming clothes, and bring waterproof bags for cameras and other valuables. Admission price is 138 RMB.
Sanya "Three-Tooth" Mountain
Located only a short taxi ride out of town, this recreation area includes a moderately strenuous hike which takes you up a scenic mountain, through a wondrous cave, and up to a gazebo where you can see mountain after mountain extending south toward Vietnam. Traditional Zhuang singing performances are sometimes available after the hike. Admission price is 25 RMB.
