Jingxi History
Getting Here

There are various routes to get to Jingxi, depending on your budget, your point of origin, and your preferred style of travel.

Flights and Visas
Depending on where you are coming from, you will most likely fly into Hong Kong, although there are also flights available landing in Kunming, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Macao, Guilin, or Nanning. You can get to Jingxi from any of these locations. Remember that China does require entry visas, which you can obtain from a Chinese embassy or consulate in your home country. Single entry tourist visas are also available from the CTS booth at the Hong Kong airport (AO4, AO5), but your application must be turned in before 1:00 PM in order to enter China on the same day (visas will be ready at 6:30 PM for applications turned in before 1:00 PM). A passport with six months validity and a passport photo are required. Fees vary according to your nationality.

Travel from Hong Kong to Nanning
Overnight Bus - If you arrive in Hong Kong early enough, you can take an overnight sleeper bus directly to Nanning. This is probably the simplest and cheapest option, although some may have trouble getting a good night's sleep on the bus, which packs passengers in two levels, three across. Taller people especially might find this route challenging. Bus tickets may be purchased from the CTS counter mentioned above for about HK$350 per person. The bus leaves the airport around 7:00 PM and arrives in Nanning early the next day at 6:00 AM. The bus will stop at the border of China where you will get out twice to go through passport control and customs (once on the Hong Kong side, and once on the China side). The bus will also stop several times during the night to allow passengers to go to the restroom. Be sure to take the bus to its final destination in Nanning.

Overnight Train - If you prefer the train, you must first take the KCR East rail from Hong Kong to the border at Lo Wu and cross into the Shenzhen Train Station, where you can take a train to Guangzhou. Be sure to get a train that goes all the way to the Guangzhou Main Train Station. At the Guangzhou Main Train Station, you can purchase over night train tickets to Nanning, which should leave around 4:00 PM and arrive in Nanning early the next morning. Train tickets are available in both "soft sleeper" (four passengers in an enclosed berth) and "hard sleeper" (six passengers in an open berth). Note: If you are flying into the Guangzhou Airport, taking this overnight train to Nanning is the best option.

Travel from Nanning to Jingxi
Once you have arrived in Nanning (whether by plane, train, or bus) you will need to get to the Bei Da Bus Station on the west end of the city. This is the only station with buses departing for Jingxi. The bus trip takes five hours, and the tickets cost about 100 RMB. Buses to Jingxi depart at 1:20 PM*, 2:20 PM, 3:20 PM*, 4:40 PM*, 6:00 PM, 8:00 PM* (times marked with an asterisk* are nicer, more comfortable buses). Tickets need to be purchased in the back terminal, not in the front terminal you will enter first. The bus will stop about halfway through to allow passengers to go to the restroom.

Travel from Kunming to Jingxi
If you are coming from Kunming in Yunnan Province, you must first take an overnight train to Baise (buses are not recommended at this time). This trip should take about twelve hours. When you arrive in Baise, go the Baise Main Bus Station and purchase bus tickets for Jingxi. The trip from Baise to Jingxi takes about three hours.

Travel to Jingxi from other Locations
From most other locations, it's usually best to travel to Nanning first, and then take the bus to Jingxi from the Bei Da Bus Station. From Guilin, you can take either a train or a bus to Nanning (bus is recommended). From Macao you can take a direct overnight bus to Nanning from the Chinese border. From Shenzhen, follow the directions above for the train to Nanning from Hong Kong.
